Why I teach

“I was an eleven-year-old who wasn’t particularly confident and didn’t feel naturally drawn to sport or many other activities. That’s when I found the drums — and everything changed. I loved the sound, the energy, and the feeling of finally being able to express myself through something I enjoyed.

As I worked to improve, I experienced many different teaching styles. Some were incredibly encouraging, while others were less so — and I quickly realised how much a teacher’s approach can shape a student’s confidence.

Those experiences continue to influence how I teach today. I focus on helping students feel comfortable from the start, especially beginners, and supporting them step by step as they develop their skills.

This is why I focus on creating lessons that feel positive, encouraging, and confidence-building from the very first drum lesson.”

Manuel Filgueiras

Safety & Teaching Approach

I specialise in working with children, beginners, and intermediate students, offering calm, structured drum lessons that help students feel comfortable and engaged from the very beginning.

I hold an enhanced DBS check and have experience working with children in a safe and professional way, always aiming to create a relaxed and supportive environment for both students and parents. I’m also happy to provide references on request.

Most of my students are complete beginners, so no prior experience is needed.

I teach in-home drum lessons across SE London, making it easy for families to fit lessons into their routine.

About Manuel

I’m a professional drummer and drum educator based in SE London, offering in-home drum lessons for children, beginners, and intermediate students.

I studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and have been working in the music industry for over a decade, performing regularly across London and internationally. My experience includes recording projects, touring, and working with a wide range of artists across genres including jazz, pop, and contemporary music.

Alongside performing, I’ve developed a strong focus on teaching, leading masterclasses and working with students of different ages and levels. I specialise in helping beginners take their first steps on the drums in a calm, structured, and encouraging way.

My aim is to make lessons engaging, supportive, and confidence-building from the very first session.
